How To Play World Conquest

World Conquest is played with one or more human and computer players.

PICKING TERRITORIES

There are 42 territories on the screen. Start by selecting which ones you want to own. If you have chosen then Random Placement setting, then territories are randomly assigned. Each player's territories are shown in that player's color. When you select a territory, an army is placed there. When you and your opponents have selected all the territories, then you take turns placing your remaining armies in the territories you own.

ATTACKING

Start your turn by selecting one of your territories to attack from. Then select a neighboring territory to attack. You can attack overseas where a line indicates a connection. You must have at least two armies on a territory to attack. Chance determines how a battle goes, but chances are weighted by how many armies you have and how many armies the opponent has in that territory. If you do not conquer a territory immediately, you can click on it again to launch another attack.

Once you conquer a territory, some of your armies are automatically moved there. The rest of your armies need to be placed on either the territory you conquered or the territory you were attacking from.

PLACING NEW ARMIES

At the beginning of each turn you will receive some new armies to place. The number depends on how many territories you own and how many complete continents you own. (You can place up to armies 10 at a time by holding down the shift key).

FORTIFYING

At the end of each turn, you can choose to 'fortify.' This means you can move some armies from one territory to an adjacent territory before the turn is over.

CARDS

At the end of each turn where you successfully conquered a territory, you get a card. Once you have more than two cards, you may be eligible to turn some in for extra armies. You need to do this at the very start of a turn. There are three suits (soldier, tank and plane). You can turn in a set of cards with all the same suit, or turn in a set of cards representing each suit. There are also wild cards that can be any suit. You get some extra armies to place, plus two extra armies on a territory if that territory is shown on the card and you own it. You must turn in cards if you have more than five.

When you eliminate another player from the game, you will get all of that player's remaining cards. If this gives you more than five cards, you will be forced to immediately turn in sets of cards for more armies.

GAME SETTINGS

If you wish to vary the game, you can change the settings of the computer opponents. There are trhee articial intelligence levels to choose from. You can also set the aggressiveness and luck of each opponent. The luck setting will make it more or less likely that the opponent will win battles.

SAVING THE GAME

During the game you can press the Save button to save your current positions. You can then leave the game and return to it later. When you start, press the Resume Game button to pick up where you left off.

\'bout possible records. I\'ve played the 6 players game and finished it in 9 rounds, with 87 troops left and 110(won) vs. 110 (lost) battles. Is there a higher score? Thanks

Try it with mixed AI levels. Sometimes the easier AIs have a grudge while the higher ones use better strategy. Still an awesome game.

It\'s way too easy. I beat 5 hard AI\'s in less than 10 minutes, even with their luck and aggresiveness maxed.

its playable, but there is an extent to the fabricated morality of it where battles are simply and quiet merely, to bitterly unworthy

They should make this a multi-player game

I must admit the AI got some vitamins. I have difficulties beating it as easily as I used to do. I can\'t wait to try multiple AIs.

If you want a challenging game. set the AI of the 5 computer players on \'hard\' and set their luck at 2. Then set you\'re own luck at -3. I\'ve won on these settings but it\'s hard.

Well the graphics have changed but even with all the AIs set to hard I still win in the mid 80s

If you want the challenge, select 5 army turn in, and randomness to the AI players in aggression and intelleigence.

Version 2.1 looks great. The AI is better, and you can make it harder using the luck factor. Good updates.

Holding \'Shift\' will place all unassigned men to that territory. Works when placing and foritying.

I usually score around 80, but I have actually lost once or twice

Or, you could play to win with the most battles. I just scored a Win/Lose of 2831/2828. More fun, and less nerdylike.

Grudge AI is only effective because they focus on you almost exclusively.

Jun 23, 2007 05:29
You can also play to win in the fewest battles. I just scored a won/lost of 104/101

i think you have a good chance to win if you just pay atttention and slowly progress it works better than attacking and having the risk of losing men

You can handicap yourself by starting scattered to give the AI a fighying chance.

it is very easy to beat all they AI on all grudge and 100% aggressive, they don\'t see that continents are more important than territory

game is way to easy but I still like it

What I mean to say is, even at agressivity 100%, they\'re not master strategists. They repeat the same pattern, eventually, even at Chaotic or Grudge or Smart.
Jun 16, 2007 05:28
You can adjust the AI in options.

Move by 10 with Shift key
